Abstract

This research was aimed to improve the student’s creative thinking skill in VII F of SMP Negeri 8 Surakarta academic years 2014/2015 about biology lesson through problem based learning application.This research was a class action research which consisted of three cycles. Each cycle contains planning, implementing, observing and reflecting. The research subject was the 30 students of VII F of SMP N 8 Surakarta Academic Year 2014/2015. Data collecting techniques of this research used testing, observation, and interview then data validation was using triangulation method. Data analyzing technique of this research was descriptive qualitative analysis which was done in three components, they are: data reduction, data presentation and drawing the conclusion or verification. The research’ procedure used spiral mode which is interdependent.The research’s result showed that the implementation of problem based learning improves the student’s creative thinking skill that covers aspects of fluency, flexibility, originality,danelaboration. The percentages of fluency aspect was 45,00% in pre cycle, 51,79% in first cycle, 59,17% in second cycle, and 73,33% in third cycle. The percentages of flexibility was 31,67% in pre cycle, 33,93% in first cycle, 44,17% in second cycle, and 56,67% in third cycle. The percentages of originality aspect was 18,33% in pre cycle, 24,11% in first cycle, 30,00% in second cycle, and 39,17% in third cycle. The percentages of elaboration aspect was 35,00% in pre cycle, 41,96% in first cycle, 50,00% in second cycle, and 55,83% in third cycle.This research’s conclusion was the implementation of problem based learning can improve the student’s creative thinking skill in VII F of SMP N 8  Surakarta academic year 2014/2015 about biology lesson.

Abstract

Critical thinking ability is important to be possessed by every individual, especially in the era of globalization. The ability to think critically supports the individual to overcome the problems in life, among which environmental problems are. Individuals and environments cannot be separated, the relationship between them is reciprocal. Solutions to environmental problems can be realized through critical thinking. Each individual's critical thinking ability varies, depending on the frequency of frequent exercises to develop that ability. Such exercises include frequently asking questions, posing assumptions, identifying information, making inferences, identifying impacts, and so on. It is therefore important to identify the critical thinking skills of individuals in a forum. Description of the ability to think critically about environmental problems is expected to be the basis for the design of development of learning plan set related to the subject of Environmental Knowledge. The description of students' critical thinking ability is obtained through questions prepared according to Polya’s problem solving syntax. The set of questions contains elements of reasoning that are judged based on the intellectual standards of reasoning by Paul and Elder.

Abstract

The research aims to improve the student’s ability to finding and relating the concepts by implementing instruction on experimentation sub-phase in the investigation phase of guided inquiry learning. The research was a classroom action research with two cycles. The research procedure includes 3 stages: plan, observation and action, and reflection. Research subjects were high school students consisting of 10 male students and 29 female students. Data were collected through observation, interview, documentation, and tests using concept maps. The validity of data used triangulation method. Data analysis used qualitative analysis techniques by data reduction, data display, and conclusions. The result of the research showed that the students’ concept map score on the pre-cycle has a range of 3,13%-21,69% and the mean of concept map score was 10,15% with 56,41% from all students above the mean, the first cycle has a range of 4,14% -69,98% and the mean of concept map score was 43,58% with 64,54% from all students above the mean, and the second cycle has a range of 33,09%-75,29% and the mean of concept map score was 48,55 with 41% from all students above the mean, thus instruction implementation of experimentation in the investigation phase of guided inquiry learning improves the ability to finding and relating concepts based on the increase of students’ concept map score from first cycle to second cycle.

Abstract

Creative thinking is one of the important competencies as part of the life skills that become one of the national educational purposes. Every individual needs the creative thinking ability to solve problems in life. It is because with creative thinking, individuals can be trained to solve problems in different ways and diverse. Giving problems to be solved by the student’s can trace the creative thinking ability as well, because to solve a problem, one must have the creative thinking ability. The purpose of this research was to describe the student’s creative thinking ability Program Biology Education of Lambung Mangkurat University in problem solving of animal ecology. Type of this descriptive research with a quantitative approach. Population in this research is all student’s Biology Education of Lambung Mangkurat University who have taken animal ecology course in academic year 2015/2016 which amounted to 82 people, with a sample 30% of the population, that is 30 students taken from three categories high, medium and low based on the value of animal ecology course. The data generated in this research were analyzed using data analysis techniques descriptive quantitative. Quantitative data obtained from the results of the assessment of student answers to the question of written assignment that will be analyzed in percentage, then converted into descriptive data according to the category based on the percentage obtained.  The results of this research indicate that the level of creative thinking ability student’s Biology Education of Lambung Mangkurat University dominant at the level of quite creative.

Abstract

Uji provenan untuk memilih materi genetik surian yang akan dilibatkan dalam program pemuliaan  telah dilakukan di Candiroto, Jawa Tengah dengan menguji 15 provenans dengan rincian  5 provenans dari Jawa Barat, 8 provenas dari Jawa Tengah dan 2 provenans dari Jawa Timur.  Desain pengujian  berbentuk square plot (5 x 5), 25 pohon setiap blok,  3 replikasi dengan jarak tanam 3 x 3m pada areal seluas 1,2 Ha. Pengamatan periodik dilakukan dengan melakukan pengukuran beberapa sifat pertumbuhan penting antara lain bentuk batang dan indeks volume kayu. Pemilihan kedua sifat tersebut berdasarkan peruntukan kayu surian adalah untuk bahan kayu pertukangan yang dipersyaratkan memiliki bentuk batang lurus, silindris dengan tinggi bebas cabang seoptimal mungkin, serta mampu menghasilkan volume kayu yang maksimal. Pengamatan pada umur 11 tahun terhadap bentuk batang dilakukan berdasarkan skor 1 – 5 sedangkan indeks volume batang dihitung tanpa dikalikan angka bentuk. Hasil pengamatan menunjukkan bahwa nilai rerata bentuk  batang surian terdistribusi paling banyak pada pada rentang skor   2,03 – 4,21 dengan nilai rerata 3,2 yang mengindikasikan bentuk batang surian cenderung  lurus mulai dari setengah tinggi bebas cabang hingga batang lurus setinggi bebas cabang. Pengamatan indeks volume seluruh provenans berada pada  kisaran 0,11 - 0,33 m3 denga nilai rerata sebesar 0,23 m3. Analisis varian menunjukkan kedua sifat tersebut sangat dipengaruhi asal provenans. Hasil uji Duncan menunjukkan bahwa peringkat seluruh provenan untuk kedua sifat tidak selaras. Berdasarkan sifat bentuk batang dan indeks volume dari seluruh provenans yang diuji  maka peluang menetapkan provenans terbaik untuk ditetapkan sebagai sumber materi genetik untuk pembangunan populasi pemuliaan telah dapat dilakukan karena data yang digunakan telah memenuhi setengah daur penebangan. Keterbatasan jumlah famili dan individu yang di plot uji provenans dapat dilengkapi dengan infusi atau penambahan materi genetik dari provenans terpilih tersebut dengan tetap mempertimbangkan area koleksi yang mewakili sebaran provenas dan kecukupan jumlah famili. Untuk mendapatkan panduan dalam infusi materi genetik maka diperlukan informasi keragaman genetik, sehingga koleksi materi genetik lanjutan yang akan dilakukan dapat  lebih efektif.

Abstract

The module is an independent learning package that includes a series of systematically designed learning experiences to help learners achieve learning goals. Therefore, the module must be organized in a creative, innovative manner, in accordance with the basic competencies and applicable curriculum, and the use of language is easy to understand by students understanding and can influence the mindset of students on learning materials. Rotational Dynamics is one of the sub-chapters on the subject of Curriculum Physics 2013 at SMA / MA level. In this Dynamics Rotation Material requires students to work hard in mastering the concept given. Therefore it is necessary a teaching materials in the form of modules that are effective in improving students critical thinking skills. The modules were developed using the Discovery Learning base. Students are given the opportunity to develop their creative ideas in solving the problem of rotational dynamics so that their critical thinking ability can develop. In this study, the preliminary rresearch was conducted. The subjects of this study are the students of class XI MIA 2 and XI MIA 3 in MAN 2 Kediri, amounting to 78 students and 2 teachers. Preliminary research data obtained through questionnaire needs analysis for students and questionnaire needs analysis filled by teachers, as well as interviews conducted to confirm the questionnaire data needs analysis obtained. Based on preliminary research conducted on class XI students and teachers agreed to develop the learning module of Physics based on Discovery Learning as teaching material in learning.

Abstract

This study aims to 1) examine the influence of inquiry-based learning on product cognitive learning outcomes. 2) examine the influence of inquiry-based learning on the cognitive learning outcomes of the process. 3) examine the influence of inquiry-based learning on the critical thinking skills of high school students. The model used was quasi experiment with counter balance design, and the nonequivalent control group design. The independent variables of inquiry-based learning, while the dependent variable is the result of cognitive learning of the product, the cognitive learning outcome of the process, and the critical thinking ability. The research population of students of class XI SMA Negeri 1 Sungai Tabuk Banjar District consists of three classes, namely class XI IPA-1 XI IPA-2 and XI IPA-3. The samples of the significance test to the learning outcomes of treatment I were class XI IPA-2 and XI IPA-3, and control class XI IPA-1. Class II treatment is class XI IPA-1 and XI IPA-2, while control class is class XI IPA-3. Determination of treatment class with purposive sampling technique. The sample of significance test on the critical thinking thinking ability of class is XI IPA-2 and XI IPA-3, while control is class XI IPA-1. The study was conducted three months (October-December 2016). The instrument of cognitive product and cognitive measuring processes consists of multiple choice test items, and for measuring critical thinking skills with essay tests. The cognitive learning outcomes are scored 1 if true and 0 if false, whereas critical thinking skills use rubric essay tests. Test of significance using anacova with SAS release 9.1.3. The results obtained 1) Inquiry-based learning has an effect on the product cognitive learning outcomes (F-ratio = 42.95, P = 0.001 and F-ratio 37.84; P = 0.001). 2) also affects the cognitive learning outcomes of the process (F-ratio = 94.84; P = 0.001 and F-ratio 54.56; P = 0.001); and 3) has no effect on applicability (F-ratio = 1.03 , P = 0.36), but has an effect on the ability to analyze (F-ratio = 39.75, P = 0.001, F-ratio 2.83.56; P = 0.05; F-ratio 11.89; P = 0.001), and the ability to evaluate (F-ratio = 2.70; P = 0.05).

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the application of lectures in the pattern of six task models (routine tasks, critical journal analysis, textbook critical analysis, idea engineering, mini research, and projects) on students' high-order thinking in microbiology lectures. This research was conducted by using exprient method. The research population is 7 classes with a total of 280 students. The sample is determined by cluster random sampling, the class of Dik A uses six task patterns in the contextual learning order as much as 36 people and the class of Dik C with the pattern of six tasks in the direct learning order as many as 35 people. Data were obtained by using pretest and postes in the form of an essay test. The analysis technique used t test at 5% significance level. The result of the research is found that Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted t calculated = 7.758 (p = 0.000), it means that pattern of six task model in contextual learning order is more effective used to influence student's high thinking skill in microbiology lecture at Biology Education Program FMIPA of Universitas Negeri Medan.

Abstract

The process of teaching and learning cannot be separated from the efforts to increase the quality of human resources. A good learning process is determined by a good planning which is also pays attention to the environment of the students. After that, the process of learning, evaluation, and observation can be done well. In other words, if those sequences of planning and teaching are implemented well, the process of learning can be said as successful and it acquires the standards. One part of planning is to prepare the learning process kit. This research is aimed to measure the indicator achievement of high order thinking skill and student’s cognitive study results through cooperative learning based on inquiry using the kit that has been developed. The result of the research using the developed kit through the learning process of XI IPA 1 student’s high order thinking skill indicates two categories of variation, that are good category by 24 students and 2 students are categorised as good enough in thinking skill. This means that on the whole, the high level of students’ thinking skill achieves good result. While students’ cognitive study result during the process of learning has achieved the standard score of minimum score criterion.

Abstract

Assessment for learning (AfL) is considering the results of evaluation to rearrange better learning activities. One of assessments, formative assessment, is an information of development of students achievemnet in the learning activities. In addition, it is very usefull for redesign the next learning strategies to increase students capability, especially for teachers. So that, ability to conduct AfL is necessary for prospective teachers. This research is aimed to describe the approvement and understanding of  prospective teacher to AfL. Survey, by using questionnare, is used in this research. Study objects were 59 students of Pendidikan Biologi Sebelas Maret University who enrolled in fourth semester. The data were analyzed qualitatively. The results showed that the most of students are realized the functions of assessment in the learning. Arround 67,8% of students stated that study plan can be changed based on the results of formative assessment. Meanwhile, 73,7% of students prefered written examination compared to the oral one and all of students are agree that every evaluation have to performe a feedback. Moreover, they are 69,5% and 74,6% of students decided on written and oral feedback respectively and the oral feedback is given by the teacher or lecturer. Then, all of students agree that feedback has some benefits to rise learning qualities. To conclude, the survey showed that students have approvement and understanding to the functions of AfL, kinds of assessment and feedback, and the subject of feedback. Prospective teacher needs more practice to use AfL and its application to reach the goals of learning.
